Pre-production recording engineer.

I was lucky enough to spend a week with Gurrumul and his producer Michael Hohnen as well as a cast of incredible musicians like Ben Hauptmann (guitar) and Matt McMahon (piano).

These sessions were a pre-production week and a hopeful grab at some final recordings. I’m unsure if the recordings made it to the final thing, but it was a pleasure to be part of these early moments.

I remember Michael saying to me “We need it to sound like a flag in the wind…“ so I said “Let’s get a flag!“

I also remember recording a 6 minute improvised Matt McMahon grand piano piece with Gurrumul’s vocals on playback. Incredible!

My favourite moment of the process was recording Gurrumuls vocals. To hear that voice live and in the moment gave me shivers.
