Maddy Jane -
Clear As Mud Pt. 1
Engineering, Bass, Guitar
In this part 1 of 2 EPs from Tasmanian Artist Maddy Jane, I was enlisted to engineer and play bass — On my lonesome at the studio, I decided I should add a Rickenbacker guitar part to the song “Thylacine‘‘.
I loved working on this body of work, Maddy is a true talent and she exposed herself emotionally and musically on this. Producer Alex Burnett set everyone to this task and steered the ship well.
From choosing the right mics to bring out the brilliance of her acoustic guitar, or making a decision on what her vocal mic should be (We landed on the Nude 251 Clone), to recording drummer Ethan Mestroni on a select few tracks. I enjoyed tracking most of these songs using a Fender Mustang bass — with flatwounds of course!
My favourite part of this session was the trip to Bruny Island. That vocal capture in Maddy’s family beach shack was magic! Proves that you don’t always need a fancy studio!
